Our Dry Mixed Recycling Collection service (also known as the abbreviated DMR) is our most popular type of recycling service and is widely used by businesses to increase the recycling of their waste materials. Of the managed waste solutions we offer, this is popular because of its ease. This service enables you to recycle paper, cardboard, metal cans, tins and a wide range of plastics.

Dry Mixed Recycling
Collection Service

Easy recycling; four materials, one service. This service is the easiest way to get your business waste recycled. Paper, cardboard, metal and plastics all in one container, simple! The ‘dry’ part of this services’ name is an important one. Liquid and food are the main contaminants of any recycling materials. Please bear that in mind when ordering this service. A stray bit of a fizzy drink or a wayward wonton could ruin a whole container load of these valuable resources.

This service operates through regular scheduled recycling collections and will be collected by a dedicated vehicle. We have heard horror stories where good recycling material is emptied into the same truck that collects general waste, compromising the integrity of the recyclables. Whilst this practice doesn’t completely invalidate the recyclability of an item, it isn’t something we support as it doesn’t represent good value in the materials recovery process.

What plastics can I put in my Dry Mixed Recycling bin?

You know what paper, cardboard, a can and a tin look like. All easy to identify and recycle. Plastics are always a point of contention when it comes to recycling. What plastics can and can’t go in the bin can vary supplier to supplier. At Value Waste we make it simple and the good news is the new Simpler Recycling legislation coming in in 2025 should make plastic recycling clearer. You can read more about that here.

Let us break it down for you. Many types of plastic can be recycled in a business waste dry mixed recycling bin, including:

Bottles and tops: Such as drinks bottles, shampoo bottles and bleach bottles
Food and toiletry pots: Such as yogurt pots, hummus pots and moisturizer pots
Tubs and trays: Such as butter tubs, ready meal trays (not black ones though) and medicine tubs

Some common recyclable plastics include:

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET): Used for water and fizzy drink bottles, peanut butter jars and salad dressing containers.
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE): Used for milk, detergent and shampoo bottles.
Polypropylene (PP): Used for cracker tubs, yoghurt pots and takeaway containers.

Not all plastics are recyclable via our dry mixed recycling service as the recyclability of a plastic depends on how it has been made. Please check with us for any specific concerns you have.

Simpler Recycling

Simpler Recycling Legislation and your Dry Mixed Recycling

As of 31st March 2025, all business with more than 10 employees will have to recycle their waste food. At Value Waste we offer the full range of services to be compliant with this legislation, inclusive of our dedicated dry mixed recycling service. For more information, please contact us or read our blog on the upcoming government legislation.

Sustainability

Sustainability and your Dry Mixed Recycling Service

Once collected, your recyclables are taken to a facility where it is sorted into the different material types. Paper and cardboard go off to mills to be pulped and remade into paper or cardboard. Metal is sent to a reprocessor and will return to life as metal. Plastics are sorted by type and sent to be melted down, pelletised and then remade into plastic products. Recycled PET (or rPET) is the one you will be most aware of as drink bottles made of recycled plastics usually have bit of a grey tinge.

Metals like aluminium can be recycled indefinitely. Paper, cardboard and plastic all see a degradation of the base materials and as such can only be recycled a certain number of times before becoming a true waste. As an example, a sheet of virgin office paper has about 7 lives to lead before becoming tissue paper, newspaper, or egg boxes due to the paper fibres becoming too short to bond properly. This is a side effect of the recycling process.

This service is a great option to capture recyclable materials in a simple way that shouldn’t be too taxing for your staff. This service can be supported with posters for internal use to help educate staff on correct bin usage. Please contact us if this would be of benefit to you.
